Supervisor: MCA VP or other Manager may be assigned 

Job Summary: 

Muslim Community Association is looking for a California licensed Funeral Director position based in Santa Clara, California. The Funeral Director will oversee, direct, and coordinate all aspects of funeral services including body preparation, visitation, services, burials, while providing caring support and advice to families and friends of the deceased. Will work closely with the MCA Funeral Committee, direct Funeral Arrangers and Funeral Assistants as necessary.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Exhibit exceptional customer service, communication and team building skills. 
  2. End to end ownership of the MCA Funeral Services Process to deliver highest quality funeral services as per MCA guidelines and process working closely with the MCA Funeral Committee & Executive boards.
  3. Meet with families and work directly with them on MCA’s behalf, arrange for the transportation of the deceased and arrange funeral services. Shall act as a liaison to coordinate desired service arrangements. 
  4. Arrange for the transportation of deceased from hospitals, coroner’s office, residences and convalescent homes etc. during business hours and weekends (if necessary). 
  5. Obtain all required legal documents to allow for the burial of the deceased. Must accurately prepare and process a variety of correspondence and documents including contracts, receipts, and other forms as appropriate
  6. Deliver and pick up Death Certificate orders at Health Department and deliver to appropriate funeral home following policies and procedures. In case of unnatural death, work with the local coroner’s office. Arrange for embalming in unusual cases.
  7. Work alongside the Communications Committee to communicate via email the details of the Janazah prayer to the community in a timely manner. 
  8. Arrange for the Ghusl (washing) and Janazah prayer for the deceased. 
  9. Set up & clean up before and after services. Maintain cleanliness of Funeral Home areas. 
  10. Maintain cleanliness and preparedness of vehicles (hearses) and schedule maintenance and repairs (such as oil changes) as needed. 
  11. Assist on funeral services to set up and assist with casket loading/unloading 
  12. Arrange transportation of the deceased to the final resting place, assist in the burial process for the deceased. Participate in making dua for the deceased.
  1. Develop and deliver monthly report to MCA EB outlining Funeral reporting and general information.
  2. Reconcile all the plots sold and used up at the Five Pillars Islamic Cemetary and the MCA controller’s records. Also to assure that all those who have purchased have in fact received their ownership certificates.
  3. Ensure adherence to all professional, city, county, state and licensing authority, regulations and rules applicable to the provision of funeral services.
  1. Work closely with the Funeral Committee; Other duties as assigned. 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) preferred from a four-year college or University.
  • Minimum 5 years of Funeral Industry experience preferred.
  • Must have California State Funeral Service License.
  • Previous community service experience is strongly recommended. 
  • Local travel may be necessary. Must have a valid California State driver’s license.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 
  • Ability to effectively respond to sensitive issues, inquiries from community and/or management.
  • Leadership skills (ability to assess situation, confidence and approachability).
  • Must be available after hours and on weekends for emergency and other unscheduled situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal English communication, active listening and facilitation skills.

Capital Improvement Projects Facilities Coordinator Opportunity at MCA

Job Title: Project Coordinator

Location: Santa Clara, CA

 

Scope of Position: the Muslim Community Association (MCA) is a non-profit religious organization agency servicing the needs of the Muslim community in the Bay Area, owning and operating Four Buildings and grounds, at two locations within Santa Clara, CA. The Project Coordinator shall manage multiple small and mid-size Capital Improvement Projects from initiation through completion. At this time the projects planned by MCA include, but are not limited to, Playground Renovation, Funeral Home Renovation, Landscape Improvements, and Interior Improvements. Additional projects are in planning and design phases. 

 

This is a part time, hourly contract position, with the Project Coordinator expected to provide a minimum 20 hours/week. Additional hours may be approved as needed. This position will be under the general supervision of the MCA Board of Trustees (BOT), through the BOT Secretary of Facilities, or other staff Facilities Director or Facilities Managers as assigned by the BOT. 

 

Job Description:

  • Manage all aspects of small to mid-size Capital Improvement Projects, including new constructions, renovations and improvements, typically ranging from $ 5000 to $ 200,000, in construction value.
  • Responsible for identifying, monitoring, controlling and reporting on all aspects of a project, including scope, cost, time, quality and safety.
  • Coordinate and manage all work with vendors, suppliers, consultants, inspectors, general contractors and/or trade contractors.
  • Coordinate all work with other MCA staff and personnel such as Building Managers, Service and Maintenance Staff, Office Staff, Faculty Members, Sustainability Coordinator, Safety Personnel, etc.
  • Provide written reports, updates or recommendations to the MCA Board of Trustees or Executive Board

 

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum Two (2) years experience in Project Management, Construction Management, Design, Construction, or other Construction trades such as Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing etc.
  • Education background in Design, Architecture, Construction, Management or other Engineering fields preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with basic software tools such as Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint etc.
  • Good time management and people management skills
  • Focused, Self-motivated and team-player

Job Title: Facilities Manager 5/20/2022

Scope of Position: MCA is a non-profit religious organization agency servicing the needs of the Muslim community and has 4 facilities in Santa Clara. This position will be responsible for managing facilities, related services, environmental compliance, and safety for the facility. Job duties include building maintenance, environmental / safety regulation compliance, grounds maintenance, organization of events, space assignments, etc. Individuals will have supervisory & budgetary responsibility.

Job Description:

  • Manage day–to–day operations of facilities and office services, which include, but not limited to, facilities maintenance, security, security badge maintenance physical security, space planning, janitorial services, and other office services. Supervise procurement and maintenance & upgrades of furniture, utilities, security systems, and signage for the facilities.
  • Serve as the primary Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) contact with responsibility to coordinate all EH&S activities with Human Resources. Ensure that MCA facilities are compliant with applicable safety standard and that such requirements are incorporated into the design of leasehold improvement and space planning projects. Actively monitor and implement required EH&S policies and procedures as may be required by local authorities. In conjunction with HR, responsibilities will include ensuring OSHA and safety regulations are adhered to, managing waste disposal process, coordination of Halls/ Rooms event and oversee janitorial and maintenance staff to ensure that buildings are safe, clean and sanitary
  • Responsible for the selection and acquisition of office furniture, Board room and all Halls provisioning. 
  • The management of vendors, suppliers, service providers and contractors required to support MCA facility.
  • Maintain appropriate assets of property, building, and associated equipment.
  • Assure that facility services, activities and processes meet end–user needs and expectations consistently, while complying with organization standards and practices.
  • Participate in other special projects, as needed
  • Engage and work with management to develop strategic facilities plans. Provide timely support of current space requirements while planning for future space and improvement needs.
  • Prepare, optimize, and maintain annual budget for building use and facility maintenance
  • Assess the current condition of electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and other essential facilities and equipment. Maintain accurate records of the supporting equipment and other systems in the building.
  • Create a schedule of regular evaluation of the facilities.
  • Participate in the development of policies and procedures that affect the use of supplies and facilities.
  • Develop back-up or alternative systems for common problems such as power shortage, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations.
  • Recruit facilities service staff and train them appropriately to ensure competent work output.
  • Review price quotes for the procurement of parts, services, and labor for projects.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with vendors.
  • Provide overall project management of corporate facilities capital projects
  • Work with Executive Board and Board of Trustees management to identify scope and then prepare project schedules and cost estimates.
  • Maintain construction documents including bid documentation, specifications, construction drawings, and other related documentation.
  • Respond to problems in a tactful and expedient manner.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university. 
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in facilities management, with a general knowledge of building maintenance, preventative management and various building permit and code requirements, 
  • Knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical and fire suppression systems.
  • Knowledge of security systems & security monitoring.
  • Valid California State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents.
  • Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Able to forecast and prepare budgets.
  • Ability to effectively respond to sensitive issues, complex inquiries or complaints from clients and/or management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including managing local and virtual teams, leading change management, addressing crisis situations, and communication processes
  • Strong time management/organizational skills including appropriate sense of urgency and proactive approach
  • Positive outlook, resilience, and flexibility exhibited through ability to work demanding environment with changing priorities
