Job Title: Quranic Arabic Teacher for New Muslims

Location: Muslim Community Association, 3003 Scott Blvd. (Santa Clara)

Duration: 6 months (to start)

Hours: 1-2 days/week, 10:00am-12:00pm (Saturday) and/or 10:00am-12:00pm (Sunday)

Job Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Teaching Quran Recitation: This includes teaching non-Arabic speaking Adults articulation points and characteristics of Arabic letters to read the Holy Quran with proper Tajweed rules (pronunciation and recitation techniques). . 
  • Fostering Understanding: Focus on helping students understand meanings behind verses (not just recitation).
  • Teach relevant language structures: e.g., common verb forms, pronouns, and roots
  • Creating a Supportive Learning Environment: Developing a positive and engaging classroom environment where students feel comfortable and motivated to learn. 
  • Culturally Sensitive Teaching: Be aware of and respect students’ diverse backgrounds and learning paces. Offer encouragement, not judgment — especially for those still learning the basics of Islam.
  • Evaluate and Track Progress : Evaluate student progress, provide feedback gently and constructively, and track their performance. 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Strong Knowledge of the Tajweed rules: 

    A deep understanding of the Tajweed rules (Quran pronunciation and recitation techniques)   

    • Knowledge of basic tafsir (interpretation) of common Surahs
    • Ideally holds:
      • Certificate/Degree in Arabic Language or Islamic Studies
      • Ijazah in Qur’an
  • Teaching Experience
    • Experience teaching non-native, adult learners
    • Familiar with adult learning strategies and different learning styles
    • The ability to adjust teaching methods to suit different learning styles and student needs.
    • The ability to be patient with students, understand their individual needs, and create a supportive learning environment.
  • Commitment and Consistency: to maximize learning outcomes and build a positive relationship between students and the Masjid, the teacher needs to be committed to the two-hour weekly class adhering to the MCA code of conduct and policies .
    • Passionate about supporting new Muslims on their faith journey
  • Ability to teach in plain, accessible English
  • Tech Skills:
    • Comfortable using Zoom, Google Classroom, or other e-learning tools
    • Able to create simple handouts, slides, or videos
  • Effective Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively with students. 
  • Organizational Skills: The ability to organize and plan lessons
  • Role Model: Being a positive role model for students, embodying Islamic values and principles
